How do I know if a therapist or counsellor is the right fit for me?

One of the strongest predictors of a positive therapy experience is the relationship you have with your therapist. Do you offer free consultations?

Yes. We offer a complimentary 15-minute virtual consultation to help you determine whether Mind & Ocean and your chosen clinician are the right fit for your needs.This is an opportunity to ask questions about our services, discuss your goals, and learn more about your clinician before booking your first appointment. There is no obligation to continue with therapy following your consultation.

What is the difference between therapy and counselling?

The terms therapy and counselling are often used interchangeably, and there is often significant overlap between them.Generally speaking:Counselling is often shorter-term and focused on specific concerns, life transitions, problem-solving, or goal setting.Therapy may involve deeper exploration of long-standing patterns, emotional difficulties, trauma, relationships, or mental health concerns.Your therapist will work collaboratively with you to determine the most appropriate approach based on your individual needs and goals.

What is Integrative Wellness?

Integrative Wellness recognizes the connection between the mind, body, and overall wellbeing. It complements traditional healthcare by exploring lifestyle factors that may support your health, including nutrition, stress management, sleep, movement, herbal education, and other evidence-informed wellness practices.Our Integrative Health Practitioner provides educational and supportive wellness services designed to complement—not replace—medical care or psychotherapy.

Do you offer virtual or in-person appointments?

Mind & Ocean is a fully virtual therapy and wellness practice.We provide secure online appointments for clients in provinces where each clinician is authorized to practise. Virtual sessions allow you to access care from the comfort and privacy of your own home, office, or another confidential space.Please refer to each clinician’s profile to confirm the provinces where they are currently able to provide services.

What can I expect during my first appointment?

Your first appointment is an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know one another.Together, you’ll discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, relevant background information, and any questions you may have. Your therapist will work collaboratively with you to begin developing a plan that supports your individual needs.There is no pressure to share everything during your first session—you are welcome to move at a pace that feels comfortable.

Session fees vary depending on the clinician and service selected.

Individual Counselling

Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCC)

30 minutes — $85 | 50 minutes — $150 | 90 minutes — $215

Registered Social Workers (MSW, RSW)

30 minutes — $96 | 50 minutes — $175 | 90 minutes — $245

Couples Counselling

Please note that fees are based on your clinician’s credentials and the service selected. Current pricing is also displayed when booking through Jane. 

What are my payment options?

Payment is required prior to your scheduled appointment. If payment has not been received before your appointment, your session may be cancelled to allow availability for other clients. Returning clients may securely save a credit card within their Jane account for added convenience. If an online payment is declined due to insufficient funds, we will notify you and provide the option to: Update your credit card informationPay by e-TransferE-Transfer payments can be sent to: hello@mindandocean.com

Outstanding balances must be paid before future appointments can be booked.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations

Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Late cancellations may be subject to the full session fee.

Missed Appointments

Appointments that are missed without notice will be charged 100% of the scheduled session fee. If you are unable to reach your therapist directly, please email us at hello@mindandocean.com.

Email is the quickest way to contact our administrative team.

Late Arrivals

If you are running late, your therapist will wait up to 15 minutes. After that time, the appointment will be considered a missed appointment and the full session fee may apply.

What time zone do you operate in?

Our administrative office operates in the Central Time Zone (CT). When booking through Jane, appointment times automatically adjust to your local time zone, making it easy to book from anywhere within the provinces where your clinician provides services.

Do you direct bill insurance?

At this time, we do not offer direct billing.Following each appointment, you will receive a receipt that you can submit to your extended health benefits provider for reimbursement, where applicable. We recommend confirming your coverage directly with your insurance provider before booking.

Are your services covered by insurance?

Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider and the credentials of your clinician.Many extended health benefit plans reimburse services provided by Registered Social Workers and Canadian Certified Counsellors. We encourage you to verify your coverage directly with your insurance provider before booking your appointment.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is important to us.Everything discussed during your sessions is kept confidential, except in circumstances where disclosure is required or permitted by law, such as concerns about the immediate safety of yourself or others, suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable person, or when records are required by a court of law. Your therapist will review confidentiality and its limits with you during your first appointment.

Can I record my therapy sessions?

To protect the privacy of everyone involved and preserve the therapeutic relationship, audio or video recording of sessions is not permitted.If you’d like to remember important topics discussed during your appointment, we encourage you to bring a notebook or take written notes.

How do I know which clinician is right for me?
